Some U.S. figures:
Each of us will leave a legacy of 90,000 pounds of garbage-80% of it buried in landfills. To make matters
worse, we're running out of space. 14,000 of our 20,000 landfills closed between 1978 and 1988. By 1996
over 2,500 more are expected to close.
Plastic Facts:
Each of us throws out 2 pounds of plastic containers every month. Americans throw away enough plastic
soft drink bottles each year to circle the Earth four times. Over 95% of our plastic waste could be reused
or recycled. Of the six most hazardous waste generating chemicals used in production, the plastic industry
uses five.
Trash into cash:
